Game of Thrones and Love of violence.

Many GOT fans complain that season 6 is the most boring season so far. They say that mainly because, this season hasn't shown enough fighting and killings to their viewers yet, compared to the previous seasons. Shocking amount of violence in the show, is one of the reason why GOT is so popular around the world. So far, in every season it brought unexpected thriller to the viewers with cold-blooded death of a POV character. It could be either a most loved character or hated one and none of the POV character hasn't got killed in this season yet, except some of the averagely popular characters. Now every GOT fans await to see a gruesome battle between Jon snow and Ramsay Bolton in next episode and many of them expect the brutal death to Ramsay.

Humans have an unconscious desire to enjoy the violence and gore. Before the civilisation, primeval man released dreadful violence against other humans and animals. He enjoyed the violence without prohibition and there weren't any restrictions to control his behaviour. Later on, in the name of civilisation, individuals were restricted to behave as they want and brought them under the law and regulations. After that, they wouldn't be able to enjoy the violence as it was, because law and regulation control their desire to enjoy the violence. If violation of law caused any bad consequences, they will be punished. Therefore, they had to repressed their desires and banished them to the unconscious. But desire to transgress the law against violence is hidden inside the psyche and come to the surface from time to time. We experience such occurrences as fights or conflicts. Nonetheless, not everyone can enjoys the violence. You can enjoy the violence as long as you are the oppressor or viewer of a violent portrayals. And yet, with the development of technology, some alternative methods arise, that you can experience the violence without any bad consequences. Therefore, punishment wouldn't be a serious concern anymore. For an example, you can either watch a thriller movie or play a fighting video game in order to experience the violence. If you are watching a thriller movie, you can identify with any tyrannous and dominant character in that movie and enjoy the violence through him/her.

Game of thrones is an ideal TV show to fulfil this hidden desire for violence. It has been continuously built this reputation for years as a TV series which shows extreme violence. Therefore, people expect the on-screen violence in every season and get disappointed when it didn't show the expected violence. Conversely, in reality, people show strong resistance to the violence. After the recent Orlando night club shooting, many people condemned the attack and regretted about the violence it brought to the society. Unconscious desire to enjoy the violence never come to the surface in such an incident, since it treated as a highly unethical behaviour. In Freudian sense, unconscious desires are thoroughly repressed by super-ego. Through the GOT TV series people get an ethical opportunity to enjoy the violence without transgression of the law. If you check the recent Facebook post regarding the GOT episodes, you will witness that how people demand the violence in the name of justice or whatsoever.
